If you’re planning to shop at Macy’s on Black Friday, you may want to plan for an early Thanksgiving dinner.
Here’s what the anonymous tipster forwarded to Consumerist,An unidentified Macy’s employee has leaked a shift scheduling poll recently sent to all employees about Macy’s Black Friday hours. From the looks of it, Macy’s will open its doors at 8pm on Thanksgiving Day.
“The Thanksgiving Holiday is also a critical time and we are counting on you to help make it successful. Your store will open at 8 pm on Thursday, November 28th. We would like to know if you are able to work an opening shift beginning at 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 28th.”
(The bolding is ours.)
Last year, competitors like Toys R Us and Target opened as early as 9pm on Thanksgiving night, likely driving Macy’s decision to move their own time from midnight to 8pm for 2013. Macy’s media relations refused to confirm the 8pm start time, stating only that they have not yet released any official Thanksgiving or Black Friday hours.
While we haven’t seen any Black Friday store hours, official or unofficial, from any other retailers yet, it would seem that the trend toward earlier opening times on Thanksgiving Day is continuing in 2013.
